"What you resist, persists." - Carl Jung

Many current evidence based treatments rely heavily on the practice of acceptance. Yet this is an extraordinarily challenging practice for everyone, practitioners and clients alike. In this workshop, through a mixture of interactive lecture and experiential practices, you will grapple and engage with defining acceptance. With case presentation, metaphor, and somatic exercises we will make explicit the human tendency to hold onto things outside of our control, and how this impacts psychological health. Woven throughout the workshop will be interventions that promote acceptance and letting go that you can immediately incorporate into clinical practice.

Learning Objectives

1. Understand and incorporate acceptance into clinical practice

2. Apply experiential acceptance based interventions immediately

3. Resources that will assist with further acceptance based learning

Presenter
Ellen Slater, LICSW
received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and graduate degree from University of Chicago. She operates a private practice in Seattle, WA. In her work she integrates neuroscience and mindfulness/acceptance-based treatments. Her studies, training, and clinical practice have focused on the intersection of spirituality and psychology. After completing a 200-hour yoga teacher training, she also incorporates the body into traditional psychotherapy. Ellen focuses on designing interventions, particularly metaphor and mindfulness exercises, to assist with bringing complex spiritual principles into focus. Ellen is sensitive to biological, psychological, social, and spiritual elements of wellness, particularly the interconnection of mind-body.
