Join us to hear a panel of three experienced clinical social workers describe the use of their specific model of therapy. Each speaker has completed advanced training in their specific therapy modality: Psychodynamic psychotherapy, MBSR and PACT. Each speaker will describe the therapy modality they use and outline a path to obtaining advanced training. Panel members will also answer questions from attendees.



OBJECTIVES

  • To learn the basics of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and how to obtain advanced training.
  • To learn the basics of psychodynamic psychotherapy and how to obtain advanced training.
  • To learn the basics of PACT and how to obtain advanced training.

 
About the Presenter

Carol Jakus, MA, MSW, LICSW
  has been a Contemplative Psychotherapist in the Seattle area for over 35 years. She has been on the Counseling Psychology Faculty at Saybrook University since 1999, has been a practitioner of Yoga and Meditation for over 30 years. Carol has completed the extensive training program to teach MBSR through The University of Massachusetts, Center for Mindfulness. She has offered the class to the general public and mental health clinicians for over 25 years.

Matthew Brooks, MSW, LICSW is a licensed clinical social worker and psychoanalyst, working with individual adults and adolescents in short-term and long-term treatment.  His areas of specialty include trauma, dual diagnosis, and sexuality, and he has a particular interest in the treatment of complex personality disorders. He has an extensive background in HIV/AIDS social work in activist, nonprofit and government sectors.  In addition to his clinical practice, he provides clinical supervision and consultation, and he is an instructor in the adult psychoanalytic psychotherapy program at SPSI, the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society & Institute.

Carolyn Sharp, LICSW is a clinical social worker in private practice with a specialty in treating couples using Stan Tatkin's Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT). Carolyn is an advanced PACT practitioner having completed all three levels of training with the PACT Institute, and continues to receive individual consultation with Dr. Tatkin. She assisted Stan and his wife Tracey at their couples retreats at the Esalen institute in 2013 and 2015, as well as assisting at the Level 1 training in Seattle. She offers consultation to beginning PACT practitioners.
